The Australian-based company Axiom Mining begins a new gold and copper exploration program in Solomon Islands tomorrow.

Axiom already has a nickel prospecting licence in Isobel province but has been unable to start work due to a legal challenge mounted by its rival Sumitomo, which lost its rights in controversial circumstances. Axiom's new licences take in 768 square kilometres of land in Makira province and on Guadalcanal. Axion CEO, Ryan Mount says the delay on the nickel project and high gold and copper prices prompted the new exploration program.
