    Reasons for the Ministers Sacking.

    Wednesday, 20 April 2011

PRIME MINISTER Danny Philip has sacked six of his ministers for non-performance and being a hindrance in the work of their various ministries.
It was reported the Ministers were hardly to be found in their office.
The six ministers were Mark Kemakeza, Stanley Sofu, James Tora, Selwyn Riumana, Martin Sopage and Varian Longamei and being replaced with mostly members of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party who crossed the floor from Opposition to Government following the ousting of their party leader, Steve Abana as Leader of Opposition two weeks ago.

The other reasons were some of the Ministers are closely associated with sacked Forestry Minister and powerful businessman, Heinz Bodo Dettke who threatened to resign last year if Mr Dettke was not reinstated.
Mr Kemakeza, Mr Sopage, Mr Sofu and Mr Tora also betrayed the NCRA Government during the February political upheaval by resigning from Government.

Mr Kemakeza was also reported to be a stumbling block for Sumitomo Metal Mining Ltd after they won the international tender to do nickel mining on parts of Isabel.
It was said Mr Kemakeza refused to deal with Sumitomo resulting in the mining company having to by-pass the Ministry of Mines and going direct to the Prime Minister to pursue what they want from Government.
For Mr Riumana and Mr Lonamei they were axed for being instrumental in the cancellation of Sumitomo's Mining Licence despite the award having gone through the proper procedure.

Their position was if Sumitomo was genuine about nickel mining on Isabel, then the Japanese Government should make some tangible investment in Isabel, like what it did in funding the Gizo Hospital and Auki market and jetty.
The Government of Japan has a 30 percent stake in Sumitomo Limited.

    Riumana at loss over sacking.

    Wednesday, 20 April 2011.

ONE OF the six cabinet ministers dumped by the Solomon Islands Prime Minister says he doesn't know what he's done wrong. On Monday Prime Minister, Danny Philip dropped Selwyn Riumana as Agriculture minister, replacing him with Connelly Sandakabatu, as part of a cabinet reshuffle.
The Prime Minister has said elements within the current government have caused instability, which has prevented it from making progress.

But Selwyn Riumana said he's confused, as he has always remained loyal to the government, and has never switched sides to the opposition.
The former agriculture minister says he accepts the decision and is happy to have more time to spend with his people.
But he says he's waiting to hear whether Danny Philip wants him to remain in his government.
Meanwhile, the opposition office says its watching to see whether the dumped ministers will decide to join its ranks, although it said no approaches have been made on either side.
