On the diplomatic front, it's a stalemate. The divisions in the United Nations over war with Iraq are deepening and US President George W Bush remains as steadfast as ever.
Richard Carleton begins this report in Iran, where he finds opposition to both the US and Saddam Hussein. He then travels to northern Iraq to report on Saddam's bonanza — how Iraq is ignoring international sanctions and exporting oil on a massive scale. It may just be that this illegal trade could finance his war.
