This is the plot for a long-running television comedy series. Australians arrive in northern Arizona and think that the Navajo can influence the Hualapai, 500km away. Then they decide that coal miners from NTEC, a Navajo enterprise, represent the Navajo government. Much like the Motor Accidents Insurance Board represents the government of Tasmania. Some Americans try to point out the ethnic and cultural differences between the Navajo and the -Pai tribes, including the long and heated dispute with the Hopi tribe over reservation boundaries. But for the Aussies, if you have seen one Indian, you have seen them all.

Second season of the series. Ten months pass and nothing has happened with BLM, where geologists are smirking at the fruitless efforts to influence the Hualapai with a crew of entrepreneurs from a distant reservation. Meanwhile, most of the Aussies have moved on to Canada, where they think oil brine from abandoned wells is a safer investment than Arizona clay. Talk of a “battery corridor” in Arizona ceases. An empty warehouse is damaged because a truck with a lithium battery is parked inside and left unattended. The share price plunges to one American cent, making it a true “penny stock.” But hope, like Hakamwe, springs eternal.
