The law already required BLM to consult with Native American tribes in the geographic area where the action is planned. There was no change in the law, just in the administration that is required to follow the law. The Navajo were one of those tribes. Their commercial enterprise was not consulted. The Navajo government joined in the InterTribal Council statement opposing the drilling. That statement has not been modified or revoked.
The Hualapai were notified of the application, but not given equal standing when it was considered. They are opposed to being minimized. The BLM produced incomplete staff work in April 2021 when its environmental assessment announced that "Native American Religious Concerns / Traditional Values" were still "To Be Determined," and that "consultation is ongoing todetermine any concerns with theProposed Action."
