AZL would need a lot of water to mix with trucked-in sulphur for that much H2SO4 at Big Sandy. They don’t even have a source for the 1000 gallons per hole they need to drill exploratory holes. They wanted to use the hole they drilled in Phase 2 and left uncapped as a well, but it’s too close to the Hualapai reservation/spring. The Plan B was to use the “municipal supply” from Wikieup, because in their ignorance they didn’t know the town has no water system.
People who don’t pay close attention think that Thacker Pass was delayed two years by opposition from latecomer tribes nearby, but the litigation was started and maintained by a non-Native rancher in the neighborhood. Likewise, most of the people who showed up in opposition at the BLM hearing on Big Sandy were non-Native ranchers. So it’s probably appropriate that NTEC, with 75% non-Native employees, is the token group chosen to support Big Sandy. It didn’t work, but at least it shows they tried in their own foreign way.
