The gas sector is not on the margins of economic vitality in Côte d'Ivoire. The Government is working to enable it to maintain this trend. From 22 000 tonnes in 1993, gas consumption in Ivory Coast rose to 154,700 tonnes in 2012, to stand at 178,000 tonnes in 2013 with the standardization policy price of butane gas across the territory. The forecasts for 2014 are consumer about 200,000 tons. And the country is doing well the means.

"This production increase is related to investments in the CI-26 and CI-27 fields operated by Foxtrot International, a subsidiary of the Bouygues group. It also responds to the high demand for electricity and the recovery of the Ivorian economy, "said Ibrahima Diaby, CEO of hydrocarbons.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy statistics show that nearly 70% of the electricity produced in Côte d'Ivoire depends on thermal power and Ciprel Azito, which are fueled by natural gas by three major suppliers. Petroci CI-11 LTD has become the operator of the IC block 11 after buying FANS Ivory Coast Limited, in August 2013. The IC 11 block is located 100 km south-west of Abidjan and at 13 km offshore in water depths ranging from 50 to 200 m.

It comprises two fields discovered by Phillips Petroleum: the oil field Lion in 1983 and Panther gas field in 1982. Their Production is concluded in 1995 with the Operator UMIC. The production capacity of the CI-11 block is about 800 barrels / day of oil and 20 million cubic feet / day of natural gas.

The second operator, CNR International (ex-Ranger Oil), operates in the fields and Hope Baobab on blocks CI 26 and CI 40. Located in the CI-40 block of the Ivorian sedimentary basin, approximately 65 km south-west Abidjan, the Baobab field was discovered in 2001 following the drilling of the Baobab 1X. The Baobab field is located 12 km from the Espoir field. Proven reserves of oil and gas are respectively estimated at 200 million barrels and 100 billion cubic feet. Finally, Foxtrot, a subsidiary of Bouygues, the product gas from the IC block 27.

A production up The image of consumption, the figures are as revealing about the production plan. The level of natural gas produced in the Ivory Coast has doubled between 2012 and 2013, from 110 million cubic feet to 220 million cubic feet. The Ivory Coast has planned this year 2015, moving 250 million cubic feet, thanks to the entry into production of new gas wells on fields Merlin (CI-27) and Gazelle (CI-202) . Based on confirmed gas reserves of 35 billion m3, representing twenty years of consumption, exploration activities are being intensified.

The Ivorian government also has plans to build a floating regasification terminal and restart the project connection to the pipeline of Western Africa (WAGP), which aims to extend until Assini, in south-eastern Côte d'Ivoire, 678 kilometers long pipeline stretching from the Itoki Nigeria to Takoradi in Ghana with branches to Cotonou (Benin), Lome (Togo) and Tema (Ghana).
