Sum up your company for us in a paragraph.
Azure Minerals Limited (ASX: AZS) is Australia’s leading mineral exploration company in Mexico. The Company is run by an experienced technical and management team with proven mineral discovery and mine building credentials. Azure is progressing two advanced-stage projects – the Alacrán Project (silver-gold-copper) and the Promontorio Project (copper-gold-silver). At Alacrán, Azure has discovered the high grade Mesa de Plata silver deposit (26Moz resource) and a Feasibility Study to advance Mesa de Plata to production is in progress. Azure continues to seek opportunities to acquire new assets which the Company believes will add value for its shareholders.
Tell us a little about you and your team’s background and any career highlights so far.
Tony Rovira has worked in the mining industry as a geologist and in company management for over 30 years. During this time, Tony has been responsible for the discovery of several gold and nickel deposits in Australia which have been developed into operating mines. The best known of these is the world-class Cosmos Nickel Mine for Jubilee Mines. For the past 13 years Tony has been Managing Director of Azure Minerals Ltd, and has built a team which is successfully exploring and developing precious and base metals in northern Mexico. Azure is currently undertaking a Feasibility Study to advance the Mesa de Plata silver deposit through development to production.
What is the focus of your management team in 2016/17? What are the key milestones you are looking to reach over the next year that you think will add value to the business?
Azure Minerals has a dual pathway strategy of mine development and exploration success. Currently it is advancing its Mesa de Plata silver deposit through Feasibility Study (expected completion 1Q2017) to production and drilling out the nearby Loma Bonita gold deposit for a mineral resource estimate (4Q2016). The Company is well-funded and is interested in meeting and talking with other Mexican-focused precious metals miners and explorers. The Company is also looking for new project opportunities in Mexico.
What do you see as the key risks and challenges facing your company at the moment and how are you overcoming these?
Our key challenge is to communicate to the Australian investment community the benefits of exploring and mining in Mexico and the high quality silver and gold assets that we are developing there. The North American market is much more familiar with operating in Mexico and silver in particular. Hence Azure is focused on increasing the North American presence on our share register, and is examining the benefits of listing on the TSX in 2017.
What is your main aim in coming to the 121 Mining Investment Hong Kong conference? Whom do you hope to meet?
Azure is aiming to meet potential investors who are looking for exposure to silver and gold assets at the feasibility study and advanced exploration stage.
Investors like to see that management have “skin in the game”. Tell us briefly about your management team’s investment in the business.
Azure’s directors each hold between 5 and 10 million shares in the Company, all bought either in the original IPO or on-market, and they also hold many share options. The directors are seriously incentivized to ensure that the Company is a strong success.
In a sentence, what do you think makes your company such a compelling investment?
Azure Minerals is fast tracking its Mesa de Plata high grade silver deposit through development, feasibility study and into production, closely followed by its near neighbour the Loma Bonita gold deposit.
