    Hi 86

it is not a case of "either or" we need both.

We desperately need a rail service from Melbourne to Cooktown to carry freight and drive on drive off cars. This would service the needs of about 80% of the population

Then we need efficient road transport to transfer the goods to where they have to go.

Having spoken to a few professional truck drivers they are disgusted that some of the people driving big powerful rigs have basically just stepped out of a local taxi truck into these dangerous vehicles.

We can never go back to where we were, drivers are like everyone else, poorly trained and the trucks are too big, too powerful and the roads are getting worse so we have to work with what we have and make the best of it.

But the government should be looking at the future and putting in a decent north / south dedicated transport rail system.

There are still some big infrastructure programs a good government could put in place rather than all the wastefull garbage that is currently happening
