    For starters rail got off to a bad start because 2 state governments decided on different rail guages.

    While successive governments argued over what system would be the standard and thereby failed to upgrade services it was all downhill from the very beginning.

    Now that road/air are powerful lobby groups we will fall further behind because no government will have the moxy to upgrade and standardise the entire network. Its all about user pays these days.

    And that means bigger trucks and more fatalities on Australian roads as the limits are pushed.

    Bloody ridiculous that no Govt has ever had bi-partisan support on possibly one of the most important infrastructure requirements of a country. Speaks highly of those who "profess" to join as members of Parliament.

    A bloody disgrace.
