I have had 2 other instances like this in last few years. In both cases it was money held by a govt dept for unclaimed monies going back many years. It may be unclaimed money from any organisation you have dealt with in the past, and once a cetain time period has elapsed a private organisation must pay the money to a govt department. I got my money back both times. Legal firms like this take a % of the gross if you go with them, for bugger all work. Generally 10 to 20%. If you search yourself you may find which Gov dept is holding it. It could be State or Federal. Contact them directly. This is what I did and costs you nothing, except filling some forms. Look up unclaimed money websites on Google and good luck.
