I am not going to criticise you in particular, or millennials in general as you are the product of your baby boomer parents, who must share responsibility for your predicament.

The internet and social media platforms promised millennials the world had changed and they could have work life balance that no other generation had been able to achieve, enjoy life’s experiences and pleasures, including not just travel to far flung places in backpacker accommodation, but to exotic places in wondrous resorts, quaint to eclectic to remotely placed air B&Bs, and that you had the right to better paid professional jobs that you could leave before your next global experience and a better paid one would be waiting for you when you returned, binge drinking expensive wines, spirits and boutique beers, 2-3 $5 coffees daily, online order home delivered meals to tempt the most fickle or least discerning palates.

Your parents indulged you this fantasy and never prepared you for any form of restraint, hard work and frugal living to help you through harder times you would surely face between well earned good times.

Study your grandparents lives from birth to death and your parent’s lives to say 45 years of age … if you are open and honest you will for the most part realise your grandparents lived hard working frugal lives until they died, that some of your parents are doing likewise and some parents have done well with sacrifice, frugality and hard work to create self funded retirements that future governments don’t have to fund and use some of their hard earned to give their millennial children a head start they never had in the housing market.

It’s not too late to have an epiphany.

    Dex
