Baby boomers won't go to nursing homes
    August 27, 2008 01:13pm

(Similar to what I was saying here the past month or so, we are not going away to some aged care facility, or nursing home, we are staying put, in our suburb where we chose to live.......
So those 'over 55 only' luxury units, close to everything is about the only options....well maybe not luxurious, but forget about aged care facilities......ok so there will be a place for them, for the unlucky boomers, the kids cannot get rid of them quickly enough, and take over the parents houses.........
oh and another thing I read today.........they are all retiring at 55.........unbelievable.....not hanging around to 65....so employers are complaining..........)
    here is the article

MOST of the nation's baby boomers have no intention of moving into a nursing home when they become frail, a new poll has found.

The Galaxy Poll, commissioned by charity organisation The Benevolent Society, surveyed 1000 people aged over 50 in New South Wales.

It found 75 per cent of respondents would move into a nursing home if it was the last resort, but expected governments to develop alternative forms of aged care.

More than 80 per cent of respondents want a new style of accommodation and care for older people.

The lack of enthusiasm for traditional aged care homes had resulted in an ageing population putting off a decision on their futures.

The poll shows older Australian's were going to snub traditional forms of aged care, The Benevolent Society chief executive officer Richard Spencer said.

"They place great store in the need for living independently as long as possible, in having easy access to health care services, and in staying in their neighbourhood of choice and being close to loved ones," he said in a statement.

"These preferences are solid and widespread and send a strong message to governments ... about what older Australians will be demanding over the next 10 to 15 years."
