I will go one step further and say that even if they could, they wouldnt want to anymore. Imagine trying to justify it to your shareholders if you are singtel, when all the low hanging fruit is gone by years end.
12 mb/s in 6 -8 years time? WTF. Another example of Rudd "at his best". Doesnt this govt realise , that like all things tech, the base level required expands exponentially. Whilst 12 mbs sounds pretty cool, it will be dead in the water by the time its finally installed (already is now) .
Its like the govt coming out 10 years ago and saying every child under 14 will have a government funded 386 pc with 12 mb ram 400mb hdd and a 15" vga screen running windows 3.2 say by 2006.
