    x61, thanks for the info. At least I now know there's a 15% tax implication of transferring the shares.

    My tax situation is simple at the moment. Tax free foreign income and capital gains from shares. No doubt it will get more complicated but the trick is finding a "good" accountant. I have had lots of people recommend an accountant, but which is the best? I'm sure many of them would suggest different ways to direct a spare few hundred k.

    I will have a look at the possibility of transferring some shares into a SMSF but I won't be transferring all.
