I assume there's one or two folk crossing shares to realise a capital loss. This sort of thing happens a lot before EOFY but you also see it before Christmas. Take advantage of low prices with a gap 18.5-19.5c, leaves 19c wide open to exchange shares. One would normally do this if you were intending to hold longer term as you would merely amplify you CG later when you sold. Somone like me could do this to take a loss now for tax, especially as I don't intend to be selling my shares for a long long time. I'm just not that clever! Look through the sales and there's a lot of matching directly, along with some slightly altered parcels to hide it from the ATO, as I think the practice is actually illegal from the ATO's standpoint. Also you get people moving their shares from themselves into a corporate trustee like arrangement, which again allows for CG manipulation. JC and SS have a lot of their shares hidden behind "corporate curtains" these days, and over time you see the names changing. But the ownership of the significant SHs doesn't change - just shuffling entities not ownership. Watch out for a change in the top 20 or an official SSH change in holdings announcement. This price deterioration would be shaking SS's tree I suspect. My thoughts anyway.
