Bad month for climate tragics

The mesmerizing ‘Net Zero by 2050’ mantra that had taken hold of the ruling elites in the collective West at least since the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 now seems like a thing of the past in the US. President Trump’s busy executive pen together with the successful appointments of economically literate conservatives and businessmen – instead of climate zealots – in leadership roles in the energy (Chris Wright), environment (Lee Zeldin) and interior (Douglas Burgum) portfolios have put ‘energy transition’ policies on the backburner if not in the ash heap of American history.
Within a few days in office and his first executive orders, President Trump had dumped the Paris Climate Agreement, cancelled the Biden electric vehicle mandate, prioritised fossil fuels and related infrastructure development and ceased the leasing and permitting for wind energy projects until a review is completed. Last week, the Trump administration halted the participation of US scientists in the UN IPCC climate change meeting in China as part of its broader withdrawal from the global climate change agenda championed by the European and the UK governments.
