Sure things could be allot worse - but ALL changes to the property should be approved by the landlord. After-all how would you like someone drilling holes etc into your house - it is courtesy more than anything else and the vast majority of minor little things like this will get approved on the proviso that if the property is damaged the tenant has to pay to fix the damage.
