    "News. What is it?

    This is Wikipedia's definition:

News is the communication of "selected" information on current events which is "presented" by print, broadcast, Internet, or word of mouth to a third-party or mass audience.

The key words? "Selected" and "presented".

The monolithic corporate media is failing us - they are doing "news" badly.

The corporate media "selects" news that will maximize profit. They "select" news that will please their investors, advertisers and Wall Street. Horse-race political coverage, war mongering, celebrity gossip and endless infotainment.

They "present" us with false equivalencies, corporate spin and narratives designed to keep people brain-washed consumers - not informed citizens.

Bill Moyers has said, "Our media and political system has turned into a mutual protection racket."

I would not consider myself properly informed if all I consumed was our mainstream media.
I subscribe to a wide range of overseas and local media, mainly free, but I do pay for a couple of Australian online independent media.
Mainly to get an alternative perspective to News LTD/Fairfax, but also to keep Independence alive.
