Stock market can be safe and a good way to build wealth over time but you need the background and the knowledge else it just like anything if you don't have the knowledge the chance of you doing a good job isn't that high.
Learn how to read balance sheet and cash flow statement
Learn different terminology, Return on Equity, Return on Asset, Return on Capital
what EBITDA really mean etc..
Books on Behaviour finance, stock market in general, some oldies but goodies books are
Common Stock, Uncommon Profit by Phil Fisher
Intelligent investor by Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett would tell you this the best book
but I found it bloody boring but Chapter 8 and Chapter 20 is gold so just read those 2 chapters
and truly understand it and you be ok.
