One thing I've found RFF to be superb at is parking cash. I play around with a fair few speculative investments and each time I make a nice win over there, I park a portion of it in RFF, which lets me pull the money out generally at the same price or higher when I need it for a new investment.
This is separate to my core RFF holdings and due to the stability it has allowed me to make a fair bit on what would otherwise be a cash position. It's really all about timing your entry points with RFF, if you can do that well you can also use this strategy.
