Hundreds of years of civilisation that has lifted us out of the base and barbarous standards of the terrorist has been ABANDONED by erstwhile civilised states bringing us down to effective abandonment of the justice system and rule of law. Call someone a terrorist and jabbering vigilantes call for summary 'justice' and shout down those who still stand for true justice to be done.
And it took so little (in the big scheme of things) for this larger tragedy to occur.
