re: death penalty - the silent majority putting aside the impact of this case has on those involved in this crime and their families, the greater the publicity given to the dangers of drug trafficking the better it is to get the message through to our kids. Whilst the mules may have been better off being caught in Australia, our soft approach would not have had the same chance of getting the message through, as well as being quickly forgotten.
Indonesia is doing us all a favour and should be applauded and not criticised for basically doing our dirty work, and helping protect our own kids, ironically from members of our own society.
Big hauls of drugs are publicly destroyed in Indonesia. Despite popular opinion, the majority of Indonesians in positions of power or responsibility are honourable and believe in the same ethical standards as our own society, perhaps even more so. Unfortunately our media rarely show that.
