the whole thing with drugs IMO is that drug use ought to be considered a medical issue not a legal one.
the problem is that now, thanks largely to the USA, the drug law enforcement agencies are so huge and employ so many people, from politicians and judges to the street cop, that the "enforcement industry" guarantees the continued survival of the industry. If the drug traffic didn't exist they'd now have to create it.
riddle me this: the Yanks are all over Afghanistan, opium production from Afghanistan has not ceased, in fact some recent years show record crops: funny that..... I'd bet one of the biggest promoters of hard drug production in the last 50 years would be your friendly local CIA.
