They have not sold their son out. He is an idiot teenager, like most of them, and don't think of the consequences of his actions because he is a child and incapable of adult decisions. Why the hell isn't the dealer who sold a minor these drugs up on charges instead of this boy.
This would have major financial implications for his entire family. Would you seriously reject an offer like this if you had had to remortgage or sell your house to pay your son's legal fees and possibly set yourselves and the rest of your family up for a life of poverty? They have been unable to work since this occurred and would not be thinking straight. The media would be taking advantage of this and would be telling them all sort of BS to get their story. They may feel that telling their story may be the only way to get the Australian Government to act. What are they supposed to do if they have no funds to pay his lawyer. Leave him unrepresented in court?
The media are scum for sure by turning this into a circus and disclosing financial arrangments for the world to see. This should have remained confidential, but what do they care? It helps the ratings, and the boy's future, that is now seriously in jeopardy, comes a distant second.
