The ethical dilemma of the guy who pocketed the ball resonates with me. Does one expose a liar with evidence that exposes oneself as a cheat?

My brother used to muck about with Holden Kingswood cars as a hobby – he always had a few, some functional, and some not, and he would swap things from one car to another to suit his circumstances. Anyhow, he was pinged for speeding, which he disputed, because being an elderly codger, he always drove within the speed limit. However, the police invented a fictitious story that they saw this white Kingswood travelling very fast, so they turned around and followed it, and they were thus able to get a speed reading.

Now the car was green, not white. The cops had simply checked the registration records and invented a story that the magistrate believed. My brother could not admit that he had used the licence plates of his white Kingswood on his green Kingswood, so he paid the fine, and said nothing.
