I wrote to the MCG in August last year when they announced this, congratulating them:

"One of Melbourne's most powerful sporting trusts has fired the first shot in the growing push against gambling in the AFL, with the MCG saying it will ban the display of betting odds from next season.

Betting agency Betfair currently has a contract with the MCG and Etihad Stadium which sees them advertise live odds before the game and at the end of each quarter. However, the practice will not continue at the 'G' next year, according to The Age.

MCG Trust chairman and Money Movers Power Index contender John Wylie says the ground has become increasingly concerned with the proliferation of betting advertising."

The TV channels and radio shows that present the betting company ads as "news" or sports updates should also behave better. BS stories about odds swinging a few cents, BS stories about suspending betting on who carries the flag etc - just feeding bad habits.
