Bandanna affirms Bowen Basin coal plans

Mining company Bandanna Energy says it is still on track to go ahead with a coal project in central Queensland's Bowen Basin, despite a slowdown in the resources sector.

The company says it hopes to start production from a new mine at Springsure Creek, south of Emerald, in 2015.

Bandanna Energy managing director Michael Gray says they plan to file a response to 49 submissions to its environmental impact statement by the end of this month.

He says Springsure Creek has a high quality coal resource and costs are at the lower end of the scale.

Mr Gray says the high Australian dollar and lower coal prices should not affect its plans.

He says Bandanna's focus is on the medium and long-term price outlooks, and the company does not have any revenue that would be affected by short-term lower prices.
