Even so, something isn't quite right with competition in the banking sector. The big banks enjoy world class profits, yet foreign banks aren't crashing the party in any meaningful way? Something doesn't add up.
Maybe just a scale issue, granted to big banks back in the 80s, due to regulation at the time. Not as simple as banks earned all of their current advantage without assistance from govt/taxpayer.
