It does seem odd, especially because bankers don't usually go to jail.
so what have they to fear?
Themselves...maybe they had a conscience. I may be presumptuous but many of their clients may have also committed suicide as a result of the bankers' actions. Clients are always unsecured debtors and the impact hits them hardest.
