CBA goes ex-div on 19-Aug. The last ex-div date was on 17-Feb, which was preceded by a nice run up in sp, but that run was coincident with an XJO rally. Note that in February the CBA sp turned turtle one week before the ex-div date. Similar story back in August 2013 with the CBA ex-div date.
Earlier this year I made a good profit by shorting ANZ about a week (roughly) before the ex-div date then holding past the ex-div date as the ANZ sp fell by more than the dividend amount that I had to pay.
Now if, and its a big if, the market held out to one week before CBA's ex div date, which would be 12-Aug, then that could be an excellent time to short CBA.
