I'm not sure anyone is implying anything will "drive property prices higher" just that they won't be driven lower. Which is your position.
I do agree that increasing mortgage stress coupled with higher rates is not a good situation. However increases on stress from such a low base is not a concern for me yet. I will continue to monitor this.
We have differing opinions on how high and how fast rates will increase. I don't believe the US economy is ready for steady increases. Maybe one or two but nothing that is going to push our rates to 7% any time soon. They are still pretty fragile and have a stock market which IMHO is well over valued which if a correction were to occur would certainly delay further any rate increases.
The world is not even close to recovered from the GFC, some pretend it is but I don't think so. Rates will be lower for longer.
