Short selling is all well and good, in principle, and in a liquid market.
But when short selling occurs in collusion, with blatant false rumour-mongering, and unlimited short selling capacity to trash prices ( since the stock doesn't have to be borrowed ), and no consequences for failure to settle, then its a problem. This problem was widely recognised after a lot of shenanigans earlier in the year and it has taken too long to deal with.
