It doesn't really matter how much you lost, they just need a shareholder (or two) to represent the class action. Typically lawers will choose shareholders from financial backgrounds and have a developed and traceable thesis as to why they bought the shares.
This bloke didn't go get lawyers to start a class action for him, it's the other way around.
