Imagine you own a publically listed kebab shop.Every day you have hundreds of customers come through the shop and buy kebabs.Every day one guy comes in and offers you a price to buy the shop.For a while, the guy is offering you $200,000 to buy the shop. Every day he comes in and says "I'll have a chicken kebab and I'd buy this shop for $200,000". Everybody is aware of this price and value the company accordingly.Then one day, the guy comes in and he's suddenly offering $100,000 to buy the shop. Every day he comes in and he says "I'll have a chicken kebab and I'd buy this shop for $100,000".The same number of customers, the same costs, everything else is the same, but we suddenly realise this isn't as desired.Are you suddenly "down 50% for the year"? Yes.
