It is purely psychological, the only time it isnt is when funds from the company account flow across into to the share registry, buy back or dividend.
The only thing that impacts the share price is demand for shares and that is partly psychological your personal investment in the idea they are going to go up, the other side of that coin is manipulators playing your mindset to relieve you of your hard earned.
