“In the emailed statement, Albemarle stated that the inventory buildup at Silver Peak was in the battery-grade channel of lithium products. The Charlotte, N.C., based corporation said Silver Peak in Esmeralda County is “utilizing the downtime as an opportunity to build brine inventories and execute improvements and facility maintenance activities that will ensure the long-term health of the playa.””
“Albemarle Corp. expects to resume lithium production at its Silver Peak operations in Esmeralda County early next year after idling a portion of the facility on Sept. 1 because of short-term supply and demand imbalances and excessive inventory, according to the company.”
“We are committed to the long-term operation of this facility and currently expect to resume production in early 2021,” Albemarle said in a statement provided Sept. 24. “It’s important to clarify that Albemarle is not closing its Silver Peak facility.”
We are no closing silver peak it’s just not economical to do business with a shroud operator that thinks we are in the business of just giving stuff away.
as I said, the return serve from the lithium sector is coming, perhaps that’s the start of it above. I would not be at all surprised to see ALB half supply in the atacama blaming the Chilean government for the forced shut down due to water issues. It’s the perfect excuse and makes them look like they are investigating seriously, when in fact that would be sending a loud and clear message to the clown in San Fran to politely pull his head in.

The experts are expecting that the lithium producers have all this idle capacity to simply “turn back on” at the click of fingers. Unless prices rise substantially this will not be the case at all. In fact how many mines are stuck in care and maintenance or VA they will not be in a viable position to even consider producing again. Plenty....
the upstream players are filthy are how they have been treated and it’s actually laughable to think that the experts think these guys will drop a knee and say yes to their demands. The race to secure lithium supply is well and truely on.
