we have seen how big the batteries are in a Tesla that weighs 2 tonne, how big will the battery be that powers a 62 tonne truck for 4,000 kilometres? how big will the battery be to power a container ship and where will the recharge stations be? how do you recharge a battery in an aeroplane if and when we have electric planes?
there’s a company in Melbourne called Sea Electric that re-powers trucks for use as EV’s. they built a 15 tonne gvm garbage compactor for Cleanaway that takes 8 hours to recharge on 3 phase power for an 8 hour Sydney garbage collection run. The truck ran out of power just past Albury and had to be towed to Albury for recharge. It then got towed from Tarcutta to Sydney because they couldn’t find any 3 phase to recharge it. It still hasn’t managed an 8 hour shift picking up garbage in Sydney The cost of the electric conversion was north of 150k.
