There was an interesting note on here before from someone who said they were hoping for a Labor win in the next Federal Election, adding they didn't mind if it meant they were personally less well off, but it would be better for society in general because Labor is committed to clean energy and addressing climate change while the Coalition is not.

I am also hoping for a change of government - to see an end to the current shambolic, reactionary, anti-science mob.

In terms of being better off or worse off personally, that's the interesting thing - even if you were a business owner who ends up paying higher wages, or an investor who ends up paying more CGT (both unlikely outcomes, to be honest, under a Labor government), you would ultimately be better off with a federal government that is an active participant (and advocate) of global measures that would be much, much better for the global economy.

Consider this: If climate change continues unmitigated - the long term impact on arable land and clean water will be significant, the impact in terms of tens of millions of people displaced by the effects of climate change will be massive. There are already almost 70 million refugees around the world. What happens to the people who live in low-lying lands as ocean levels rise? What happens to the people who can no longer survive from their farming lands, or who no longer have ready access to drinking water? What happens when countries start fighting over access to water, arable land and habitable territory?

The economic consequences would be disastrous. Governments everywhere need to take this seriously.
