A little while ago I was discussing GXY with a friend of mine who is a business reporter.
He said that his main concern with GXY was the seeming reluctance to communicate and, of course, the associated half-baked approach to public relations. He didn't express any concerns about the actual fundamentals of the company or its future prospects.
Psychology plays a powerful role in the operation of the stock market, and communication plays a huge role in psychology.
Why is it that GXY management has such a limp approach to promoting and defending itself?
I will never forget the fact that when the POSCO deal was first announced, GXY did not issue a media statement. It was absolutely bizarre. Yes, there was buzz regardless and yes the SP went up to $3.60, but it was indicative of a general disregard for public relations. Why on Earth WOULDN'T GXY have wanted to promote vigorously?
I don't recall GXY holding a media conference to announce the excellent news about Mt Cattlin's reserve either. One would assume that a 42% increase in the known reserve of GXY's only producing mine would have been worth a media event. The ASX announcement alone generating a lot of online publicity, but why not aim for TV and radio as well?
AT said there were a number of announcements coming. I hope that management finally goes on the front foot and pumps up the volume when the good news comes!
