You are wrong about big oil. I worked for 33 years in the oil industry and they are very concerned about the reduction of diesel in all the major capital cities. The uptake of diesel SUV's and cars from 1995 till present day has been where the profit is. They are constantly lobbying government to slow down the particulate reduction targets that affect diesels to give them time to adjust production. When America changed their constitution to allow them to export energy we in the industry knew oil was going to be heading south in price. The Saudi government tried to float their oil company but pulled the float because it was doomed to failure. Refineries around the world are shutting down leaving only the largest most efficient left. New emission targets will push the auto industry to EV transportation. It's not if but when.
