EVs are a niche market at the moment and will continue to be so until they resemble something along the lines of the price of an ICE car. People can argue that they are already cheaper if you consider the entire cost over the life of the car, however, people aren't willing to take on the burden of the upfront cost. It's like a phone plan. It might be considerably cheaper to pay the total cost for a 12-month plan upfront than to pay monthly, however, the majority of people still pay monthly. It's a combination of psychological and financial.
Then there is the issue with charging stations. Selling EVs before the infrastructure is in place. That's like selling mobile phones before having phone towers.
