I'm sure that the long term holders here have no intention of "washing" their shares over the new financial year (after all, it is illegal ).
But I think the real reason is that it takes a long time to build a big holding with a reasonable average price.
If you are sitting on say 2m plus shares (inside Top 100) - and you have acquired them at some point over the 5 years at an average that is likely to be above the current share price, you are not likely to risk "tax time selling" - especially as news/HP action could occur on any given day!
Plus, what effect do you think a big buyer would have right now on the share price?
Over the last few weeks selling has been pretty much confined to small holders or in some cases, recent buyers.
Some data to support that?
Last week Top 500 - 35 buyers, 12 sellers.
