I find these round graphs very deceptive, and adding another dimension even more so.
I'm not saying this is ever done intentionally or trying to deceive, simply that the actual graphs themselves can give us a deceptive comparison.
as you increase the radius of a circle, its area increases far quicker. our perception of its size doesnt show as much difference as reality. As you make a small increase in diameter you get a large increase in area
if you have a circle with a radius of 10, you would have
Pi x 10^2 = 314 (rounded).
a circle of double the area (which you are representing as resources size) would be just over 14 units
pi x 14^2 = 616 (rounded).
the width increaded 40% but area increased nearly 100%
adding a third dimension to form a sphere is even more deceptive still.
I'm not trying to be a richard here, just think these commonly made graphs are flawed. Does anyone else think this way?
