I agree - that is the vibe I got from yesterday.
The team confessed to all their sins, set a very low expectation/bar, and make it easy to beat when the recovery grades do eventually tick up, as they always do as they learn more about handling the particular ore.
They will then look like heroes and all of Hotcopper will be full of effusive praise.
