The Russell 2000’s upside extension above the breakout is bullishly encouraging. The index spent nearly two years consolidating within a well-defined range before completing the topside break. The RUT, having worked its way back to the two-year highs at 2100, favours additional upside in the coming year and a possible retest of the record highs. The bull market in the US needed to broaden out technically, which now seems to be occurring despite elevated near-term risks for a correction.
