Given the typical EV pricing, that $1,000 extra estimate into the price of EV's from higher lithium prices isn't going to change the demand much. Consider a serious buyer looking at a EV at around US$50k. A 2% difference in the price of the vehicle when they get to the yard to choose cars, models and upgrades isn't going to change that many people's decisions back to an ICE. Lithium's contribution towards higher EV's is not going to derail enough purchase decisions to materially alter EV uptake.

Given some governments have multi-thousand EV incentive scheme's, the size and continuity of those incentive schemes is going to have far more impact on demand than lithium will in the overall cost of the car. If EV's were $10k and the $1k added 10% - yes it might swing a lot more people but that isn't the situation.

The increase is also coming at an ideal time. Think how much the weekly cost of petrol has gone up. Is it more than $5? (yep). Well $5/week multiplied by 52 weeks and say 4 years is $1,040. I know for a lot of people that weekly cost of petrol change will be a whole lot more than $5.

Its also worth noting many goverments have 10-20% GST/VAT on new car purchases. Some then also add stamp duties. On a $50k sale they are collecting $5-10k+ in tax. If $1k were to shift the dial on demand, goverments have a lot of room to move to avoid a stall in demand. It then comes down to government priorities but guessing that is a very long different subject.
