Gotion InoBat Batteries has signed a memorandum with the Slovak government on the construction of a car battery factory in Šurany. The facility will have an initial capacity of 20 gigawatt hours, but this could be doubled in the future. The two sides haven’t released details about the volume of the investment, but it’s expected to create 1,500 new jobs on the 65 ha site. The Ministry of Economy said it expected battery production to begin in 2026. “We hope that Slovakia will become a world number one not just in the production of cars per capita but also in the production of batteries,” said Gotion High-Tech’s chairman of the board Li Zhen.
