Way back about 1987 I collaborated with the now MD of Lumacom to develop a sign which could be controlled remotely by pager. There was one positioned outside the Chateau Commodore Hotel in Perth. I was able to change the sign by sending a coded message to a pager which was attached to the sign. If many signs had pagers with the same coding I could have changed them all at the one time. The sign company had hoped to use the technology to change signs at places like Lottery Kiosks. This was before the days of the mobile phone and contact by pager was about all that was available.
This worked well, but not much more came of it until recently. I notice the article you quote says the sign can display SMS messages. No doubt the signs can be changed remotely using SMS technology.
I don't have shares in Lumacom but I am interested in its progress.
