Agreed. A distortion. Sellers + shorts. Buyers + no opposite for a short? So the equation is no longer balanced. Should be a mechanism to buy stock without paying for it and actually effect a transaction. Shorts only pay a small lender fee. Margin loans are perhaps this..but restricted by a lvr and require you own underlying stock. Shorts should have the same restrictions.
